Dear Stitchers,

It's August, and that means it's time for the annual I-75 Yarn Crawl -- from August 8 to August 13. you can travel up and down I-75, from Tennessee to Michigan, visiting yarn shops and seeing loads of great yarns and products guaranteed to please even the most discerning yarn enthusiast!  Shops will have on their "Sunday best," displaying new yarns and patterns, hosting trunk shows, giving away door prizes, having special  promotions and welcoming dozens of new customers!  Passports, listing all of the participating shops, can be purchased at the shop.  We have a limited number to sell, so don't delay in purchasing if you want one.  Your passport is stamped at every shop you visit, making you eligible for prize drawings at the conclusion of the crawl.  We offer a 10% discount on regular priced merchandise to passport holders.  We invite any of you participating in the crawl to join our regular Stitch-In Night on Thursday, August 10, 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the shop.  Enjoy the fellowship of other stitchers, snack on refreshments, and make progress on your current project -- fun all around!   Put your comfy shoes on, fill your gas tank, and hit the road for the Yarn Crawl!

Here at The Stitch Niche, we have several cool events planned for the Yarn Crawl.  One of the best, no doubt, is our exclusive custom- dyed yarn, done for us this year by Mountain Colors, and available for the first time during the Yarn Crawl.  Last year, Zen Yarn Garden dyed our custom color, entitled Bluegrass Beauty, dyed in shades of blues and greens to represent colors seen on Kentucky horse farms.  This year, our color, named Bluegrass Ablaze (with many thanks to Dorothy Apple for the name suggestion), is a vibrant representation of the beauty of autumn in Kentucky.  Rich shades of reds, oranges, yellows, greens and purple combine to make a truly stunning color -- Mountain Colors did a great job!  The base yarn is the popular Twizzlefoot, a fingering weight wool plied with a strand of silk for a heathered effect.  We will have models made up, both knit and crochet, so you can see how lovely it is when worked up.  We will have only 80 skeins available during this initial offering, so don't miss your chance to be one of the first to own one!

Also stocked for the Yarn Crawl are gorgeous new yarn mini packs from Frabjous Fibers in fingering, sport and worsted weight and 3 color palettes in their stunning So Fond of Rainbow Packs.  Your creative senses will explode when you see these gorgeous groups of color!  We also are stocking a lovely combination yarn from Frabjous called Opposites Attract -- one skein of  their Unicorn (a shimmering halo of silk and kid mohair) and one of Mad Hatter (their soft sport weight merino), in complementary colors, with a free shawl pattern included on the label.  Sweet Georgia, a real shop favorite, is sending a new assortment of colors in Superwash DK and Tough Love Sock, both tonal solids and variegated colors.  We will also have one of their stunning prismatic mini-packs on display for pre-order.  In preparation for Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, we are stocking a beautiful soft pink shade of Twizzle from Mountain Colors -- perfect for a soft hat, scarf or cowl for a beloved breast cancer survivor in your family and friends group.  Our first shipment of "cool" colors in yarns from Stitch Together, one of today's "hot" yarn dyers, is on the way -- we hope it will be here in time for the Crawl!

Additional treats available for the crawl and beyond include a trunk show from Pepperberry Designs, a needlepoint design company.  Their adorable painted ornament canvases will be on display during the entire month of August.  We will be offering a 20% discount on these canvases during this month -- a great time to stock up for your holiday stitching needs.  We will also be receiving a shipment of yarn caddies from Walker Bags -- love these!  Really neat new yarn bowls, made from fabric strips by a local artist, will be in stock for the first time -- you will love them.  Kits for quick knit and crochet baby hats will be available so you'll be ready for that next baby gift occasion.  We've kitted up yarn for an adorable knitted sheep-themed ornament that fits over a glass ornament ball and we've even included the ornament ball for you!  We've knitted and crocheted up several market bag samples, so popular today for those quick trips to the grocery or farmer's market, and will have the required yarns available at a greatly reduced price.  Our sale corner yarns, already reduced 50%, will be on sale at an even greater discount during the crawl -- amazing bargains await you!  Other little goodies will be arriving daily in the days prior to the crawl, so be ready to see all on August 8!

Remember that we are now certified as a Ravelry Pro Shop, meaning that we can sell you patterns sold in the Ravelry Pattern Store from designers who have opted in for this service.  Any pattern that you would normally purchase direct from Ravelry can now be purchased through the shop.  We can print the pattern for you at the shop, and/or email it to you and it will be saved in your Ravelry library.  This benefits both your local yarn shop (us!) and the designer -- a win/win situation.  Your retail price is the same either way.  Please consider contacting us the next time you want to purchase a pattern from the Ravelry site.

Come and join us on Thursday nights between 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. for some fellowship and stitching time!  We have a group of knitters, crocheters and stitchers who have started meeting during that time over the last several months just to stitch and laugh together.  You are welcome to bring your stitching project -- knit, crochet, needlepoint or cross stitch, and join us!  Bring a beverage if you want to, or a dinner snack if you're hungry, and relax with others who love stitching as much as you do.

Warm Up America Update -- Our Warm Up America group is moving along in 2017.  So far this year a total of 254 afghans in various sizes, 119 hats, 10 scarves and 4 headbands have been completed.  If you have yarn to donate, are willing to knit or crochet blocks, or want to become a part of our volunteer group, please join us!  We meet on Tuesdays, from 10 AM until approximately 2 PM.  Feel free to call the shop with any questions or suggestions.

Our finishing deadline for cross stitch and needlepoint ornaments, stockings, pillows, bell pulls, etc. is Saturday, November 18.  This is the last day that we will accept items for finishing by Christmas.  Please remember that you need to bring all backing fabrics and specialty threads (if needed) for cording.  In order to encourage you to get your ornaments in early, we are offering a chance on a 1/2 price finish to two lucky customers who bring in an ornament prior to September 30.  For each ornament you bring in prior to that date, you will receive one chance.  On September 30, we will draw two tickets, and those two lucky customers will each receive their finished ornament at 1/2 the regular price.  Now that's incentive to get those needles moving!

Our belt finishing deadline is Saturday, December 2.  All belts and key chains that need to be back in time for Christmas must be brought in by this date -- if we are to do the finishing/binding stitch for you, we will need it no later than November 26.

Our monthly Help Sessions continue once a month on Saturdays.  The dates for fall are: August 19, September 9, October 14, November 11, and December 9.  If you need help with a project, new or old, join us for a help session and get going again!  The fee is only $10.00 for a 3-hour period, 1:00-4:00 p.m.  You can join us for all or part of the session -- whatever meets your needs.  You do need to call ahead to sign up so we know how many people to plan for.
