Dear Stitchers,

Friday, October 11 is I Love Yarn Day!  This is a day celebrated nationally to affirm our love of yarn!  Whether you knit, crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch or just love beautiful fibers, this is a day to celebrate  your passion.  In honor of this day, we at The Stitch Niche are planning some special activities.  All of our yarns and fibers will be offered at a 20% discount on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.  We are including our total yarn inventory, plus all needlepoint and cross stitch threads.  Fabric and canvases, being made of fibers, will also be on sale!  A special discount of 50% will be offered on our stock of the popular ruffle yarns for scarves.  All yarns already in our sale corner will be further discounted to $4 per ball -- a more than 50% discount.  In addition, with each purchase, you will receive a chance on a $50 gift certificate, one to be given away at the end of each day.  We will also have samples of some of our newer yarns available -- enough yardage to cast on or chain a few stitches and work a small swatch to see how you like it.  So as you can see, we love yarn AND we love our customers -- come celebrate with us on October 11 & 12!

Finishing Deadlines - With the holidays approaching, we need to notify you that Saturday, November 30 will be the last day we will accept items for finishing  by Christmas.  This includes belts and key chains for leathering and cross stitch and needlepoint pieces for ornaments, stockings and pillows.  Please remember that you need to bring all backing fabrics and specialty threads if desired for cordings.

Our Holiday Calendar will be posted on our web site, and on the door of the shop as the holidays approach.  Be sure to check with us the weeks of Christmas and New Years for special hours and pre-inventory sale dates.

Since we have had our web site active for approximately a year at this point, we feel it's time to move ahead with the next phase of trying to pare down our mailing list.  Mailing newsletters to over 8500 customers is a very costly venture -- printing, labeling and postage costs run over $3500 per newsletter.  We'd much rather spend that $7000 a year on new inventory!  Several thousand of you have signed up to receive your newsletter via our web site, and we really appreciate your follow through.  Some have expressed that they prefer, or have a need, to continue receiving their printed newsletter in the mail, and we are happy to honor those requests.  Many of you, however, have not responded either way, and the time has come when we have to make some decisions.  Therefore, this will be the last newsletter that we will mail to the entire mailing list.  Unless we hear from you, (by phone, email, or visit to the shop) that you would prefer to continue having your newsletter mailed to you, we will assume you have signed up on the web site to receive it that way, or prefer not to receive it anymore -- we realize lives take different directions, and time is scarce, so it may be that needlework is no longer an activity you enjoy or partake in.  If you still want to sign up to be notified via email when the newsletter has been posted to the site, you can do that on the first page of the site, , or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  We need your email address so that we can notify you when new information is posted to the web site.  Thanks so much for your understanding of our need to make these changes, and for your cooperation and patience during the transition.

New Merchandise is arriving in the shop weekly, so if you haven't been in for awhile, let me tell you about some of our new goodies.  The yarn from Feederbrook Farm that we told you about on the web site has arrived, and is going back out the door pretty rapidly!  We have 3 different DK-weight yarns from this vendor -- a kettle-dyed semi-solid, a variegated version, and one called Entropy, which is a multi-color with a twist.  This was our favorite find at market, and it’s obvious that those who have been in agree with our choice!  Reorders are in the near future.......  We also have new sock yarns from Blue Ridge in stock, and orders from Lorna's Laces and Jojoland will be arriving soon.  The Walker Bags -- nylon mesh storage bags and totes in bright colors -- have arrived and sold out already -- reorders have been placed.  Frabjous Fibers has shipped some adorable gadget bags and small project bags in clever designs and bright colors -- love these!  The wall behind the counter is full of new needlepoint ornament canvases, and more are on the way -- they are selling, so don't delay too long.........

Book Revamp - Many have noticed the empty book racks and expressed confusion as to let me explain what we're doing with all of our knitting and crochet pattern leaflets and booklets.  We are in the process of transitioning to a binder system, rather than the 20+ spinner racks we currently have.  We realize that finding patterns on the spinner racks can be challenging -- we have so many patterns that it necessitates 2  turned crossways in each pocket, and they often get put back in the wrong spots, sometimes leading to 4-5 different patterns ending up in one pocket.  It is difficult for us to find what we're looking for sometimes, so we can imagine how frustrating it is for you!  We are putting a sample of each pattern in 3-ring binders, by category.  You will be able to sit down with a binder of the type of pattern you're interested in and flip through all of the available designs.  Each pattern will be numbered, and will have a corresponding numbered file in the filing cabinets -- similar to the pattern set up at fabric stores.  You will go to the filing cabinet and pull the pattern you want to purchase.  We are working our way through  the racks -- shawls, scarves, hats, mittens, socks, slippers, and other accessory items have been done and we're beginning to work on the garment patterns.  Bear with us as we work to complete this process.  We have gotten positive comments from those who have used the new system and we feel it will be much easier for you to locate patterns you want when all are done, and easier for us to keep track of patterns we are out of so we can reorder in a more timely manner.  The hardcover books will still be kept in bookshelves, but will be sorted into categories, making it easier for you to find those that correspond to what you are interested in making.  Give us feedback and suggestions -- it needs to work for you!

Warm Up America! has been working hard this year and has already donated hundreds of items to needy and deserving individuals.  As of the end of September, they have donated 129 full-size afghans, 166 lap robes, and 57 baby afghans.  Also donated have been 130 scarves, 58 hats, 77 preemie hats for babies, and 8 chemo caps.  Many more items will be  finished and donated prior to the end of the year, so your help is still needed.   If you would like to help out by crocheting or knitting 7" x 9" blocks, full afghans, hats or scarves,  by assembling blocks into afghans, or by donating your leftover yarn -- your help is appreciated.  If you would like to knit/crochet blocks, but don't have scrap yarn available to you, we have bags of donated yarn that you can pick up.  Blocks can be any color, and any stitch pattern you choose.  If you would like to join the group of ladies that meets at the shop on Tuesdays to take care of Warm Up America! business, please drop in.  They meet from 10:00 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m., and you are welcome to attend for all or any portion of that time.  The group will meet regularly through the month of December, and then take a break during the months of January and February.  We do still receive donations during those two months and give out yarn and  afghans for assembly.

*A deposit of 1/2 of the class fee is required to reserve your space in the class; balance of fees is due at the first class session.

Operating a business in this challenging economic climate, I feel even more thankful for the loyal customer base we have.  We try very hard to deserve your business, and appreciate your positive response.  If there is anything we can do better, in terms of customer service or inventory management, please let me know.  If you are unhappy about something, please give us a chance to fix it.  If you love something we've done, we'd love to hear about it!  Thank you for 23 years of support and friendship.

Fondest Regards,
