Dear Stitchers,

We are SO excited -- at long last, we are launching our web site! I realize that we are years behind the times, but we hope “better late than never.” We appreciate your patience. We hope to use the site as a way to keep in better touch with you, our valuable customer. We will be able to keep you updated on what’s new in the shop, let you know about special promotions, provide updated class schedule information, give you helpful tips to make your stitching more enjoyable, and let you get to know us a little better and why we love what we do! We are not utilizing a shopping cart feature at this time, so you won’t be able to buy directly from the web site, but as always we are happy to take orders in the shop or over the phone and mail them to you if coming in is not possible. We have worked hard to make this initial debut as problem free as possible, but I’m sure we will be making many tweaks and changes as we use it and get feedback from you. We welcome your comments, both positive and negative, about the web site and about the shop -- our goal is to consistently improve our service and product offerings to meet your needs. Explore the site, see what’s there, and let us know what you think! Our web address is: thestitchnicheky.com. The “ky” is an important part of the address, otherwise you could end up on the web site of a shop in Mississippi, Texas or Florida!

Part of our goal in setting up the web site was to provide another venue for our newsletter. Many of you have mentioned that in an effort to save paper and postage you would be willing to have your newsletter sent via email, but up until now we didn’t have a way to do that effectively. While we still won’t be sending the newsletter in an email, we will be glad to send you an email notification when the newsletter is posted on the web site, or when we have something else of interest that we think you will want to know about. If you want to receive notifications of “important stuff” in an email, please go to the web site and sign up on our “Contact Us” page. There will be a box to check to opt OUT of a paper newsletter should you wish to do so. This is another effort on our part to “go green” wherever possible -- join the crowd!

Put October 4, 5 & 6 on your calendar -- as a celebration of our new web site launch, we are having a fall sale! Our entire inventory will be on sale for 20% off, excluding special orders and merchandise already in our sale corner. As a thank you for taking the time to explore our web site, you will find a printable coupon there for an additional 5% off any books or leaflets that you purchase during the sale. The sale is a great opportunity to purchase fall class materials at a discount, or get supplies for holiday gift stitching. See you there!

Warm Up America! is going strong this year. In the months from January to August, they have distributed 341 afghans, 38 hats and 3 scarves. We are in need of donations at this time, so if you have full or partial skeins of yarn left over from past projects and would like to get them out of your way, we can use them! The afghans that Warm Up distributes must be made from washable yarns, but if you have wools, cottons, and silks that you’d like to donate, we bag and sell them in our sale corner, and the money is used to buy yarn appropriate for the afghans. We again are planning to donate hats and scarves to the Hope Center this winter, so yarn appropriate for those items is welcome as well. If you would like to crochet or knit blocks for the afghans, the required measurement is 7” x 9” and if you would like to put blocks together to create afghans, we have some laid out and ready to assemble. Many thanks to those of you who contribute in one way or another, either on a regular basis or once in a while -- all efforts are appreciated and very much needed.

With the holidays approaching, we need to notify you of our finishing deadlines. Saturday, December 1 will be the last day we will accept items for finishing. This includes belts and key chains for leathering and cross stitch and needlepoint pieces for ornaments, stockings and pillows. Please remember that you need to bring backing fabrics and specialty threads if desired for cordings

Our Holiday Calendar will be posted on our web site, and on the door of the shop as the holidays approach. Be sure to check with us the weeks of Christmas and New Years for special hours and pre-inventory sale dates.

STORE POLICY REMINDERS

When making a purchase, please keep in mind our return policy guidelines. You must retain your original sales receipt and the item to be returned must be in original condition -- yarn cannot be wound into a ball, contain pet hair or smell of smoke. If you purchased a yarn over 3 months/90 days ago, and it has in the interim been discontinued and reduced, we are only able to refund the current sale price. Items not eligible for return, even with a receipt, are pattern books/leaflets, custom cuts of fabric or canvas, knitting needles, crochet hooks, or sale corner merchandise. You deserve to know you are buying first quality merchandise that has not been used by someone else! We appreciate your understanding of, and compliance with, our policies. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to discuss them with us at the time of purchase.

This afghan is made up of 24 blocks, each a different stitch pattern and technique. One block is taught per month, and the final 2 blocks will be taught in October and November. In January we will offer a new format in classes that will help you finish up any past blocks you need help with. Teacher: Judy Olson

Afghan Workshop - Mondays, January 14 & February 18, 9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. or 6:30-9:00 p.m., 1 session, $14.00 per session. We've offered 3 afghan series classes over the past 10 years -- The Great American Aran Afghan, The Great American Afghan, and most recently The Great North American Afghan. Many of you have created incredibly beautiful blocks -- with the help of Judy's wonderful charts and pattern notes! I'm sure that there are a few blocks that have gotten laid aside over the years, with the intent to go back and finish them later, but now it's been awhile and directions don't quite make sense anymore? This workshop class will give you the opportunity to finish those blocks, or start one for a class you missed, or assemble your afghan! Teacher: Judy Olson
